Hebrews 10:19-22
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
We hope you’ve been enjoying meditating on the cross of Christ this week! Today we consider the access to God that the cross provides. If you step into some catholic churches today, you might think that a veil still remains between God and his people. People are quiet, eyes cast down, praying to a priest, sometimes trembling in fear. But when Jesus gave up his life on the cross, the curtain of the temple was torn in two! Jesus made a way for us to God—a new and living way! Now, Jesus invites us to come to him and experience God. And he does not call us to come as slaves in servile fear, but with the boldness and joy of sons!
How can weak and sinful people approach a holy God with such boldness? Only by the blood of Jesus on the cross. Even our best thoughts and actions are only splendid sins, yet Christ invites sinners to come and abide in the presence of their holy God.
